BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Decision on Realignment Due

A decision whether to force a realignment of divisions in the National League will be made by July 1, baseball Commissioner Fay Vincent said. Vincent has said he may urge the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals to switch divisions. The Cubs, who would switch to the West, are the only team opposing the move. The July 1 date is vital because that is when the league must determine its new schedule.
