Joe Greene had the third-best long jump (27-6) in the world this year and Joe Falcon ran the fastest 1,500 meters (3:36.3) by an American in 1992 at the Prefontaine track and field meet in Eugene, Ore.
Annette Peters beat Mary Slaney in the women’s 2,000 with a time of 5:38.80, the fourth-fastest time in the event by an American. Slaney was second in 5:39.19, the closest she has come to winning since coming back from foot surgery.
