A coalition of churches and temples on Sunday will sponsor a 10-mile-long human chain as a symbol of peace and unity in the wake of the Los Angeles riots.

The event, sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition to Heal L.A., an offshoot of the Interreligious Council of Southern California, will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the formation of the chain down both sides of Western Avenue between Florence and Franklin avenues. It will culminate in an hour of song and prayer.

Among the highlights:

* At 2:55 p.m., all churches and temples in the region are invited to ring their bells.

* At 3 p.m., more than 100,000 participants, including choirs from throughout the city, will sing simultaneously in English, Spanish and Korean. The event will be broadcast live on radio station KNX-AM and Radio Korea.
