Austrian Gerhard Berger won the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in a McLaren-Honda.
Berger inherited the lead on the 38th of 69 laps when Ayrton Senna, from Brazil, stopped on the course with an engine problem. Berger passed the Williams-Renault of Riccardo Patrese of Italy on Lap 15, only seconds before Nigel Mansell strayed off course and out of the race in front of them.
Michael Schumacher of Germany was second, 12.401 seconds behind Berger, with Jean Alesi of France third in a Ferrari.
