Riley Qualifies for U.S. Publinx
Chris Riley of San Diego was among four golfers who qualified Tuesday for the USGA Amateur Public Links, to be played July 13-18 in Brooklyn Park, Minn.
Riley was among 172 golfers trying for the four spots during two rounds of qualifying at the par-72, 7,109-yard Rancho California golf course in Murrietta. He finished second at 141, one stroke behind winner William Yanagisawa of Long Beach.
Riley, a senior at Patrick Henry, recently won the San Diego High School Championship.
Justin Hicks of San Diego earned the third berth by finishing at 143, and Marcus Meloan, also of San Diego, won the last spot with a total of 144.
Michael O’Leary of Oceanside became the first alternate after losing a tie-breaker to Meloan.
