Japanese Surfers Advance at Oceanside
Tomofumi Yoshioka and Takyuki Fukuchi, two of nine entries from Japan, advanced to the third round of the $22,000 Nissan Open surfing competition Wednesday at the Oceanside Pier.
Yoshioka and Fukuchi are newcomers to the Bud Pro Surfing Tour, and each had to compete in Wednesday’s early-round heats.
The third round starts at 8 a.m. today. Among the surfers expected to compete this week include Newport Beach’s Richie Collins, Laguna Beach’s Jeff Booth and San Clemente’s Shane Beschen.
