WEEKEND TV : Perot to Face KNBC’s ‘News Conference’

Hot politicians and 50 years of painful memories assert themselves this weekend.

Ross Perot, the Texas billionaire who is leading in many presidential polls, sits down for an interview with a member of the mainstream press Sunday at 6:30 a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m. on Channel 4’s “News Conference.” Linda Douglass, KNBC’s political editor, will press the undeclared presidential contender on issues such as MIAs, taxes, gun control and personal ethics.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State James A. Baker III talks about the historic nuclear disarmament treaties signed this week by Russian President Boris N. Yeltsin and President Bush on “This Week With David Brinkley,” Sunday at 11:30 a.m. (7)(3), 10 a.m. (42), 10:30 a.m. (10). Baker is also the guest of CNN’s “Newsmaker Saturday,” today at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

“Memories of the Camps,” Sunday at 7 p.m. on KABC-TV Channel 7, remembers a terrible chapter in U.S. history through interviews with Japanese-Americans who were uprooted from their homes and businesses and imprisoned in internment camps during World War II. Anchor Joanne Ishimine hosts.
