San Juan Capistrano’s Hulse Again Best in Surfing Competition

George Hulse of San Juan Capistrano had the highest score for the second consecutive day in the $22,000 Nissan Open surfing tournament Friday at Oceanside.

Hulse scored 34 out of a possible 40 points in continued two- to three-foot, average quality surf at Oceanside Pier.

Two other Orange County surfers also finished in the top 10. Shane Beschen of San Clemente, the leader on the World Qualifying Series, was tied for second with 33. Richie Collins of Newport Beach, second on the World Qualifying Series, tied for ninth with 30.

Dino Andino of San Clemente also won his heat. Darren Brilhart of Newport Beach was eliminated.

The final 12 heats of Main Event Round 2 will be completed beginning at 7 a.m. today.
