Red Line Will Open Early

Councilman Richard Alatorre says that “We’re going to change the false impression that people in L.A. won’t use mass transit by providing attractive alternatives to driving alone on congested streets and freeways.”
I think that people would love the opportunity to use mass transit getting to and from work. But another article mentions how much monthly passes for many of the different Metrolink lines (scheduled to start Oct. 26) would be. With monthly passes ranging from $112 to $176, there is no way I could afford to use this service regularly.
The issue that would make the Metrolink a success is not convenience but affordability. At $112 per month for a pass, it’s cheaper for me to drive alone. These fares must be lowered for the system to be a success.
