A summary of significant Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the past week.

CITY COUNCIL

WALK OF FAME: Approved a request to place the name of the music group Chicago on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on July 23 at 6438 Hollywood Blvd.

NOTHING BUT THE FAX: Approved a proposal by Councilwoman Ruth Galanter restricting the use of fax paper by city employees to reduce paper costs, lower long-distance phone charges and speed up transmission times. Under the policy, employees will no longer use cover sheets when sending a fax.

STREET CLOSURES: Approved the temporary closure of several streets in Westwood and Brentwood for block parties on July 4. In Westwood, Woodruff Avenue between Wellworth and Rochester avenues will be closed from noon to 8 p.m. In Brentwood, Wellesley Avenue between Gorham Avenue and Dorothy Street will be closed from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

PUBLIC SERVICE FUNDS: Approved a proposal by Councilman Zev Yaroslavksy to give a total of $5,700 to 10 public service organizations within his district, including the Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center and the People Assisting the Homeless organization.

AIDS FUND: Approved spending $225,000 toward building a 25-bed AIDS hospice under construction at 2146 W. Adams Blvd. in the Crenshaw area.

BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS

SOUNDPROOFING: Approved spending $6.4 million in federal funds to soundproof residential neighborhoods affected by noise from Los Angeles International Airport and Ontario Airport. The city of Los Angeles will receive $2 million for the noise-control project, which will include insulation of windows and doors.

PARK, BEACH AND RECREATION ACT: Approved a proposal supporting the Los Angeles County Park, Beach and Recreation measure that will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot. If passed, the measure would raise $510 million for buying parkland, developing regional and city facilities, and financing other recreational activities. The City of Los Angeles would receive more than $120 million. Passed: 15-0. Voting yes: Marvin Braude, John Ferraro, Ruth Galanter, Nate Holden, Joel Wachs, Michael Woo and Zev Yaroslavsky.

DEMOLITION FEE WAIVED: Approved an ordinance waiving all demolition permit fees for owners who must demolish the more than 500 buildings burned in the recent civil disturbances. Passed: 15-0. Voting yes: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Holden, Wachs, Woo and Yaroslavsky.

GRAFFITI: Approved a proposal by Yaroslavsky to spend $1 million to continue the citywide graffiti program for the 1992-93 fiscal year. The Operation Clean Sweep program is run by 13 community organizations. Passed: 11-0. Voting yes: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Wachs and Yaroslavsky. Holden and Woo were absent.
