NORTHRIDGE : Assailant Receives 3 Years Probation

A Northridge resident was sentenced to three years probation Thursday for his part in the attack and torture of a window installer who was thought to have stolen money from a house.

David Lowen, 24, had pleaded no contest in San Fernando Superior Court to false imprisonment charges as part of an agreement with prosecutors. In exchange, Lowen agreed to testify against Jeffrey Shepard, 30, the main assailant in the case, Deputy Dist. Atty. Sue G. Lasicka said.

Shepard pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon just before his trial last month. He is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison as part of the agreement.

According to court records, Shepard accused Ronald Henry, 24, who was working at Shepard’s house, of stealing money.

Shepard stripped Henry naked, handcuffed him, shocked him with a Taser-like stun gun, plucked his hair and eyebrows and threw him into a pen with six Rottweiler puppies, according to Lasicka.

Henry escaped and ran down the street as Shepard was preparing to tar-and-feather him. Police, who were en route to another call in the area, saw Shepard and Lowen chasing Henry, and arrested the two men.
