Car Strikes Garden Grove Woman, Baby

WESTMINSTER — A Garden Grove woman and her newborn baby were struck Saturday when a car jumped a sidewalk.
The 26-day-old baby, who was flung from his mother’s arms upon impact, was not injured, police said.
According to police, Forrest Scovil, 69, of Garden Grove was driving at 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a drugstore in the 15000 block of Brookhurst Street when he lost control of his car. The vehicle went onto the sidewalk and struck Vera Bussey, 36, who had been holding her baby, Sgt. Tom Broderson said.
Bussey suffered broken ribs, legs and pelvis and possibly internal injuries, Broderson said. She and the baby were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Scovil complained of high blood pressure and was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center for observation, Broderson said.
Police are were still investigating the accident, and Scovil was not cited.
