Where to Find Fireworks and Festivities to Celebrate the Fourth

Independence Day will be celebrated across the South Bay with a variety of events and fireworks displays. Some of the Fourth of July festivities include:

Gardena: City of Gardena’s annual Fourth of July celebration at Rowley Memorial Park, 13220 S. Van Ness Ave., from noon to 9 p.m. There will be food, game booths, races, kiddie carnival rides and a fireworks display at 8:45 p.m.

Inglewood: City of Inglewood hosts a Fourth of July celebration at Centinela Park, 700 Warren Lane. Features free swimming, tennis, balloons, cotton candy, other events. Starts at 1 p.m. at the amphitheater, with music, singing, dancing, fashion and magic shows, and cultural exhibitions. Fireworks begin after dark. Contact (310) 412-5370.

Lawndale: City of Lawndale, in cooperation with Centinela Valley Union High School District, presents a free fireworks show and entertainment program at Leuzinger High School’s football field. Entertainment begins at 7 p.m. with singers, a troupe of gymnasts and music. Fireworks follow at 9 p.m. Gates open to the public at 6 p.m. Leuzinger High is located at the corner of Rosecrans and Larch avenues.

Rancho Palos Verdes: The 17th annual Rancho Palos Verdes Country Fair Independence Day celebration will be held at City Hall, 30940 Hawthorne Blvd., and will run from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be bands and music, puppet shows and displays by more than 60 artisans. Redondo Beach: Port Royal Yacht Club’s 3rd annual Independence Day “(Dirty) Dingy Marina Race and B.B.Q.” A $2 entry fee is required, with donations benefiting the South Bay Child Abuse Center. The barbecue is $3.50 per person. Begins at noon at 555 N. Harbor Drive, Redondo Beach. Contact (310) 379-6499.

San Pedro: Fireworks and patriotic speeches scheduled for Independence Day, beginning with a traditional observance at the Korean Friendship Bell in Angels Gate Park (Gaffey Street at 37th Avenue) at 10:30 a.m. A fireworks display will be held at Cabrillo Beach at 9:15 p.m., sponsored by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. San Pedro: A Fourth of July party will be held on the Lane Victory beginning at 11 a.m. at Berth 53, San Pedro. There will be music and exhibits, and the public is invited. The Lane Victory is a World War II cargo ship that serves as a memorial to those who lost their lives at sea. The ship is located in San Pedro at the foot of Harbor Boulevard past 22nd Street. Parking is available. A donation of $2 per person is asked.

Torrance: Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration, noon, Wilson Park, 2200 Crenshaw Blvd. Games, arts and crafts, carnival, food booths, train rides, and contests. Fireworks at 9 p.m. Free public parking at Del Amo Fashion Center and Civic Center, and free shuttle transportation between Wilson Park and Del Amo Fashion Center and Civic Center. Wilson Park parking will be shut down at noon.

Torrance: Ninth annual South Torrance Lions Club fireworks show will be held at the El Camino College stadium. Gates open at 6 p.m. and clowns and bands will begin performing at 7 p.m. Performing will be the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band, Randy Zane Gray Country Western Band and the American Youth Express. A parachute team will jump from 3,500 feet as darkness sets in, and fireworks will follow. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 through 12. Profits benefit the Torrance South Bay YMCA and other local charitable organizations. Tickets can be purchased at the Torrance South Bay YMCA, Ticketmaster and the chambers of commerce in Hawthorne, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Redondo Beach and Torrance.
