PLACENTIA : Gravel Spilled After Truck, Van Collide

Share

A gravel truck spilled half its load Thursday morning after colliding with a county transit passenger van, resulting in a slight injury to the van driver and snarling traffic for about an hour.

The 11:07 a.m. collision occurred after the brakes of the tractor-trailer rig, driven by Willie Brandon, apparently failed as it was heading south on Rose Drive, Officer Bill Allen said.

The double-trailer rig continued through a red light and into the intersection of Rose Drive and Orangethorpe Avenue, where it collided with an Orange County Transit Authority passenger van occupied only by its driver, Robert McDonough, police said.

McDonough was treated at Placentia-Linda Community Hospital for bruises.

After the collision, the truck cab and one of its trailers flipped over, spilling gravel and “causing traffic havoc for a while,” Lt. Russ Rice said.
