SAN DIEGO : Not-Guilty Plea in Hit-and-Run Case
A San Diego man accused of killing a woman who was riding her bicycle at the foot of Mt. Soledad on May 23 pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
Anthony David Fusco, who turned 24 the day after the bicyclist, Carolyn McGregor, was killed, will remain free on $25,000 bail until a preliminary hearing Aug. 17.
Fusco is accused of striking the 34-year-old McGregor with his pickup truck.
According to a San Diego Police Department investigator, a witness said Fusco stopped his vehicle, examined the injured woman and said, “Don’t die. Please don’t die.” He then reportedly fled the scene.
The witness to the alleged hit-and-run accident picked Fusco out of a photographic lineup, the statement said.
According to the document, a check of criminal records showed that Fusco was driving on a suspended license at the time of McGregor’s death and that he had an outstanding warrant for being under the influence of methamphetamine.
The complaint filed by the district attorney’s office specifically states that Fusco is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
