An unoccupied house that was for sale in Simi Valley was gutted in a blaze that may have been started by fireworks, a Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Fire investigators said the blaze, which broke out about 9:30 p.m. Monday, was probably ignited by someone setting off fireworks on the home’s shake shingle roof, the spokeswoman said.

Damage to the house in the 600 block of Sinaloa Road was estimated at $350,000, she said. The fire was contained in about an hour and no injuries were reported.
