Secretary Slaps Wimp Sanderson With a Lawsuit
Former Alabama basketball Coach Wimp Sanderson slapped his secretary, Nancy Watts, when she told him to beware of a rumored affair with a colleague, she said in a suit filed Tuesday in Birmingham.
The suit against Sanderson, Athletic Director Hootie Ingram and school trustees claims Watts was required to work “in a hostile environment which was tainted by impermissible sex and gender discrimination.”
Sanderson resigned May 18 after 13 seasons when reports of the alleged attack became public. Also, she said he slapped her at her home 2 1/2 years earlier.
She reported both instances to the school’s personnel director, Watts said, adding that Ingram and other university people knew that Sanderson treated female employees differently from male employees but took no steps to correct the conditions.
