LOCAL NOTES : Chris Hunt Signs Free-Agent Contract With Angels

Chris Hunt has signed a free-agent contract with the Angels and has reported to the team’s Rookie League club in Boise, Ida., said Bob Hunt, his father.

Hunt, who graduated from Orange Lutheran in 1987, hit .338 with 34 runs batted in and six home runs last season at Cal Poly Pomona. He was a first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Assn. catcher and was named the school’s male athlete of the year.

David Warady of Huntington Beach maintained his lead in the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace, finishing third in the 18th stage of the 3,000-mile race, along Interstate 70 near Green River, Utah.

Tom Rogozinski of Hagerstown, Md., won the 44.95-mile stage in 6 hours 44 minutes 6 seconds, his second consecutive stage victory. With the victory, Rogozinski, who at 24 is the event’s youngest competitor, moved into second place, 5:31.47 behind Warady after 774.45 miles.

Mission Viejo’s Scott Von Der Ahe has been named as a replacement player on the South team for Saturday’s 33rd Orange County all-star football game at Orange Coast College.

Von Der Ahe, 6 feet 1 and 230 pounds, replaces Jason Theis, an outside linebacker from Mater Dei, who injured his knee in a scrimmage Saturday.

Christ College Irvine has added three women’s basketball players for next season, the college announced Tuesday.

They are:

--Kara Stephens, a guard from Orange Lutheran High who was an All-Olympic League selection last season and was the league’s female athlete of the year;

--Stacey Giem, a guard from Newport Harbor High and Orange Coast College, where she was an All-Orange Empire Conference selection last season;

--Jennifer Zylstra, a 6-foot forward from Cerritos College.
