The last three days at Dodger Stadium, during six games that lasted 19 hours 27 minutes, I saw 92 singles, 16 doubles, four home runs, 25 stolen bases, 33 runs, 110 runners left on base, 13 errors, 11 double plays, one hidden-ball trick, three hit batters, two balks, one passed ball, two wild pitches, 41 walks, 63 strikeouts and four waves. . . .

Shucks, I even thought I saw five men in the Montreal Expos’ infield at one time Wednesday. . . .

Actually, it was what didn’t happen that took so long. . . .

The Dodgers and Expos fiddled their way through nine scoreless innings in 3 hours 35 minutes during the first game Wednesday. The major league record for the slowest nine-inning, 1-0 game is 3 hours 7 minutes. . . .

What could save the Dodgers from last place is the Houston Astros’ 26-game trip July 27-Aug. 23. . . .
