SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : Four Golf Tourneys in Spotlight

With the Dodgers and Angels in the doldrums and the Olympics still two weeks away, golf will take center stage this sports television weekend, with telecasts of four tournaments, including one featuring the ubiquitous Michael Jordan.

Golf: With many of the PGA tour’s top players taking this week off to prepare for the British Open, the U.S. Senior Open is the marquee attraction. ABC (Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42) will air the final two rounds today and Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m. The PGA’s Anheuser-Busch tournament continues today and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN. The cable sports network will also carry the LPGA Phar-Mor tournament today and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. NBC (Channels 4, 36 and 39) will carry the Isuzu Celebrity Championship today at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon, with Jordan joining other athletes and entertainers in the three-day tournament.

Baseball: The Dodgers get national exposure when they play the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium today at noon on CBS (Channels 2 and 8). The Angels will visit the Detroit Tigers Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on KTLA Channel 5. The Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres play Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN.

* Other Sports: In cycling, portions of the seventh and eighth stages of the Tour de France will air today at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday at 10 p.m. on ESPN. In auto racing, early-risers can see the Formula One Grand Prix of Britain Sunday at 5:50 a.m. on ESPN. And in basketball, SportsChannel will repeat the U.S. Olympic team’s 136-57 win over Cuba Sunday night at 7:30.
