Pop Album Chart : Cyrus on Top; ‘Boomerang’ Moving Up

Share

The “Boomerang” soundtrack, which some figured would fizzle after premiering at No. 8 on the Billboard magazine pop album chart, picked up steam, bounding to No. 4. This could be the album that dethrones Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Some Gave All,” which has held the top spot for seven straight weeks. One of the hottest rock albums on the chart is a re-release--”Temple of the Dog,” a tribute to the defunct Seattle band Mother Love Bone. The first time around it sold very little but this time, with the Seattle bands featured on the album being so popular, it zoomed to No. 16 after five weeks on the chart. MC Ren’s “Kizz My Black Azz” is the hottest new rap album, jumping to No. 12 in its second week on the chart. Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” is still the No. 1 pop single.

* This album, featuring three new songs by George Michael and remixes of recent dance hits, entered the chart at No. 52. The sales proceeds go to AIDS research.
