HANSEN DAM : $102,306 Raised for Anti-Gang Program

A music festival last weekend at Hansen Dam raised $102,306 for an anti-gang program operating in the San Fernando Valley, it was announced Thursday by Los Angeles Police Chief Willie Williams.

Williams made the announcement as he thanked executives of Spanish-language radio stations KTNQ and KLVE for holding the fund-raising event Sunday for the Jeopardy program, an anti-gang effort under way for nearly two years in the Police Department’s Foothill Division.

About 50,000 people attended the concert, which featured Latino music.

In January, the Jeopardy program--which seeks to identify potential gang members and steer them into educational and sports activities--was expanded to the Valley Bureau’s four other divisions.

The new police chief said there can be “no greater cause” than raising money for the Jeopardy program, saying he was heartened to attend Sunday’s event and see the turnout.
