4.0 Quake Rolls Through Redding Area

A mild earthquake rumbled through the northern Sacramento Valley on Thursday morning, but there were no reports of injuries or damage, officials said.

The 4.0 quake struck at 8:37 a.m., said Lu Page of the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park.

Page said the epicenter was near the town of Cottonwood, 12 miles northeast of Red Bluff. The temblor was felt throughout the Redding area and as far as Chico, 45 miles to the southeast.

Also Thursday, the magnitude of last week’s Mojave quake felt throughout Southern California was upgraded to 5.5 by the U.S. Geologic Survey and Caltech. The Saturday quake had been listed as magnitude 5.1.
