PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Stams Gets Hurt Again, Out a Week
Bad luck in training camp continues to disrupt the career of linebacker Frank Stams, who suffered a strained left hamstring Thursday and will be sidelined for at least a week.
Last year, Stams suffered an injured left thigh during the second week of camp and sat out the first 11 weeks of the season.
“Isn’t this a nightmare?” Stams said Friday. “The muscle gods aren’t behind me or something.”
Stams, in his fourth year, is moving from middle linebacker to the left outside spot to compete with Roman Phifer.
“It couldn’t have happened at a worse time,” Stams said. “I don’t know what to think.”
Already impressing the coaching staff is Robert Bailey, a second-year cornerback who had several interceptions and acrobatic knockdowns in the first two days.
“Oh, he really looks good,” Coach Chuck Knox said. “He’s made a lot of big plays here, a lot of interceptions.”
