A day after leaving a hospital for treatment of a virus, Davey Allison won the pole position for today’s 500-mile NASCAR race at Pocono International Raceway in Long Pond, Pa.
Allison, leader in the season point standings, turned a lap at 162.022 m.p.h. He has four victories this season but has never won at Pocono.
Ricky Rudd qualified second at 161.525.
