Azusa : Assessments Re-Enacted
Despite protests from numerous residents, the City Council voted unanimously to re-enact two assessment districts that will generate $2,825,030 for city landscaping, county fire suppression and paramedic services.
Currently the services are paid for out of the general fund that, in the proposed budget for fiscal 1992-93, has a deficit of $4,505,645.
Fire Suppression and Landscaping Maintenance assessment districts were established in 1989, with fees collected through residents’ electric bills. The districts were rescinded in December, 1990, and since then the costs for the services have been incurred by the city.
The re-enacted districts call for the tax-deductible fees to be collected through property taxes, beginning in July, 1993.
Owners of single-family residences will pay $150 annually for fire suppression; landscaping will average $12.50 per year. Fees for multiunit complexes and industrial sites will be higher.
