Davey Allison was released from Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa., and immediately flew to Talladega, Ala., where he proved to his doctor and himself he could get in and out of a race car.
Allison has been hospitalized since last Sunday with two broken bones in his right forearm, a broken right wrist and a broken collarbone, all the result of a crash at Pocono International Raceway.
He is expected to at least start Sunday’s DieHard 500 at Talladega Superspeedway behind the wheel of his Ford Thunderbird.
Allison, who last weekend fell to second place, nine points behind Bill Elliott, in the Winston Cup driver standings, must drive at least one practice lap Saturday and take the green flag on the race track Sunday to earn Winston Cup points.
