A man who reportedly tried to cash a stolen check at a bank here Tuesday led sheriff’s deputies on a chase of up to 95 m.p.h. into Artesia, where he was arrested after his car got stuck on train tracks.

Clifford Rocklin Walker, 36, of Yorba Linda tried to cash a stolen check about 3 p.m. at a drive-up teller window at the Sanwa Bank, 11051 Beach Blvd., Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Richey said.

The clerk called authorities, but Walker drove off in his Ford Thunderbird when deputies showed up.

They chased him south on Beach Boulevard, west on the Garden Grove Freeway and north on the San Diego and San Gabriel River freeways before he stopped at railroad tracks after exiting at Carson Street, Richey said.

Walker forced another driver to turn over his car, police said. But as he tried to run down a deputy in that car, another deputy fired a shot into the car door and Walker surrendered. No one was hurt.

Walker was to be taken to Orange County Jail to be held on suspicion of robbery, felony evading arrest and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, Richey said.
