The already short-handed New York Mets sustained another injury when left fielder Vince Coleman left in the third inning of Tuesday’s game in Pittsburgh with soreness in his right quadriceps.
The extent of Coleman’s injury was not known. He was removed two innings after he doubled to start the game and scored on Dave Gallagher’s single.
The Mets have used the disabled list 15 times this season, breaking the team record of 11 set in 1979 and 1987. Seven Mets are on the disabled list: Bobby Bonilla, Howard Johnson, Bret Saberhagen, Dwight Gooden, Paul Gibson, Steve Rosenberg and Kevin Elster.
