Several cities in small markets would lose their NFL teams if free agency were implemented in professional football, NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue testified in his third consecutive day as a witness in antitrust action brought by eight players against the league.
Tagliabue’s statements came in response to questions by players’ attorney Jim Quinn, who said data the NFL gave him shows that in 1990 the seven small-market teams were more profitable than the seven large-market teams.
