Two men were booked on suspicion of murder Friday after they directed sheriff’s investigators to a dumpster where the officers found the strangled body of a Santa Ana lawyer who had been missing since Tuesday, investigators said.

Detectives said that Kurt Karcher, 24, of Cypress and Lee Allen Hallock, 37, of Downey had been arrested late Thursday after they tried to use a credit card stolen from Seymour S. Pizer, 61, to pay a bill at a hotel in Downey.

“When our investigation is concluded, I believe we’ll find out that robbery was the motive,” said Lt. Dick Olson of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Pizer had last been seen leaving his Santa Ana office about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday to return to his home in Rossmoor, investigators said.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Karcher and Hallock about 8:45 p.m. Thursday at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Downey after a credit-card company alerted authorities that Pizer’s credit card was being used, Olson said.

During a subsequent interview with the suspects, Olson said, deputies learned the location of Pizer’s body. It was found Friday morning behind a store in Dana Point.
