Davey Allison, who suffered a broken right collarbone and broken bones in his right forearm and hand in a crash three weeks ago at Pocono International Raceway, said he will be at the wheel for at least the start of Sunday’s NASCAR stock car race at Watkins Glen, N.Y.
Dale Earnhardt took the top qualifying position, for the first time in two years, by establishing a record on the reconfigured 2.45-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen road circuit with a lap of 1 minute 15.603 seconds, averaging 116.662 m.p.h.
