Todd Bodine pulled away from Dale Earnhardt and then held off Hut Stricklin to win the Detroit Gasket 200, the first Busch Grand National race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich.
Bodine, youngest of three racing brothers from Chemung, N.Y., held the lead for the final 31 laps of the 100-lap event.
Stricklin appeared to have a strong run going at the start of the final lap, briefly moving right up behind Bodine’s Chevrolet. But Bodine pulled away from the other Lumina going down the backstretch and went on to win by 28/100ths of a second.
Earnhardt held on to finish third, followed by Bill Elliott, Harry Gant and Dale Jarrett.
