One of two men accused of bludgeoning to death an elderly Clairemont couple whom he once lived with was forced to leave after they accused him of stealing, the couple’s granddaughter, testified Monday.

Randall C. Wall, 23, and John R. Rosenquist, 28, are charged with murder, burglary and robbery in connection with the brutal March 2 slayings of John and Katherine Oren.

Tammie Decker, the Orens’ granddaughter, said at the pair’s preliminary hearing that she and Wall spent a month last year living in a “makeshift tent” in her grandparents’ back yard until the elderly couple asked them to leave. Wall was her boyfriend at the time.

“Randy did not get along whatsoever with my grandparents,” Decker said. “He was always getting into arguments with my grandmother.”

During his brief stay there, Wall had the opportunity to go into the home and become familiar with it, Decker said.

John Oren, 83, and his wife Katherine, 73, died of massive head injuries after being struck with a blunt object, as well as suffering slash wounds to their necks. Their car, some cash and credit cards were stolen.

Rosenquist and Wall pleaded not guilty to the charges and are being held in County Jail without bail.
