GRIFFITH PARK : Runaway Horse Is Killed on Freeway
A horse that bolted from its trainer in Griffith Park wandered onto the Ventura Freeway in Burbank and was hit by a car and killed, clogging eastbound traffic for several hours, authorities said Monday.
The driver of the car that hit the horse was also injured in the crash at 8 p.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol Officer Ed Jones said. Josh Lin, 38, of Temple City was treated for facial cuts at St. Joseph’s Medical Center and released.
The horse apparently was being led through Griffith Park when it bolted, wandering through the park until it walked up the freeway off-ramp at Forest Lawn Drive. Jones said several cars swerved to avoid the horse before Lin’s auto struck the animal.
Eastbound lanes were closed for about two hours.
