PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Telecast Tops Sports Market
Saturday’s Rams-Raiders exhibition was the weekend’s most-watched sporting event and tied with Fox’s “Cops” as the day’s highest-rated program, according to figures released Monday by the A.C. Nielsen Co.
KCAL Channel 9’s broadcast of the Rams’ 19-16 overtime victory drew a 10.2 rating. With each rating point being equivalent to 48,751 households, it meant about 497,000 households were tuned in.
Three other NFL exhibitions came closest to the Ram-Raider ratings. The San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins had an 8 Sunday on KNBC, the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins a 5.4 Saturday on KNBC and the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants a 4.3 Saturday on KCBS.
KTLA Channel 5 received a 4 Saturday and a 2.9 Sunday for its coverage of the Angels and Oakland Athletics. The PGA Championship on KCBS had a 2.7 Saturday and 3.5 Sunday.
