LOS ANGELES : Day Care Operators to Be Tried in Toddler’s Scalding
A couple running a Los Angeles day care center was ordered Tuesday to stand trial on felony child abuse charges after punishing a toddler who soiled her pants by forcing her to sit in scalding water.
Lemuel Rodgers, 25, and his wife, Kathryn, 36, each face one felony count for placing a 2-year-old girl in a tub so hot that she received second- and third-degree burns over 47% of her body, a prosecutor said. Deputy Dist. Atty. Ryan Rainey said Kristen Williams has had to be hospitalized at the burn unit of Sherman Oaks Hospital and Health Center.
Rodgers was held in lieu of $500,000 bail and his wife on $100,000. Arraignment for the two was set for Sept. 1 in Superior Court.
