A man’s bullet-riddled body was found in a parked car on a dead-end street in Thousand Oaks Thursday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies said.

Police at the East Valley Sheriff’s Station received an anonymous call at about 2 p.m. Thursday reporting a suspicious vehicle parked at the west end of Greenwich Drive with a man inside, possibly passed out, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Kathy Kemp.

Detectives found the man’s body propped in the front seat of the black 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, apparently shot numerous times.

After examining the car and interviewing neighbors, police determined that the victim was a transient who was living out of his car, which had been parked in the area on previous occasions, Kemp said.

No gun was found, however. There were no bullet holes on the outside of the car and no evidence of robbery was found, officials said.

Police are withholding the man’s name until they can notify his relatives. An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.
