Shop-till-you drop consumerism meets knee-jerk jingoism in this misconceived guide for people who want to bolster the sagging U.S. economy by purchasing American-made products. “Buy American” provides lists of conglomerates that are foreign-owned, but doesn’t include lists of businesses that are American owned, forcing the reader to choose suppliers by the process of elimination. Lefcowitz also ignores the problem of how to categorize products that are made in United States by subsidiaries of foreign-owned companies.
