Monrovia : Quake-Related Fees Waived
Residents who have already applied for disaster loans to repair property damage suffered in the June 28, 1991, Sierra Madre earthquake will continue to qualify for waiver of building permit fees through the end of 1992, the City Council voted Tuesday.
The fee waiver was extended to 150 earthquake victims in the city, Assistant City Manager Jeanne Kennedy said. But when the policy expired a year after the quake, a few additional residents whose loans have not been funded asked the council to extend the policy. Most of them were denied state disaster loans because of insufficient income, Kennedy said.
About 35 residents will be getting loans from the county Community Development Commission within the next three months, she said, and will be eligible to have their permit fees waived.
