LOS ANGELES : Funds OKd for Revising Coliseum Renovation Plan

The Los Angeles Coliseum Commission on Wednesday authorized $500,000 for new planning for renovation of the facility.
The move came after the chairman of the Coliseum’s renovation committee, N. Matthew Grossman, declared that plans made in the last two years by the facility’s private managers, the Spectacor partnership, are defunct.
The commission also authorized an initial payment of $50,000 to a consultant who will try to develop a modernization plan for the adjacent Sports Arena in an effort to retain the Los Angeles Clippers basketball franchise. The Clippers have been exploring a move to Burbank, Anaheim or another site in the metropolitan area.
Spectacor announced last week that it was quitting as financier of the Coliseum renovation, citing poor economic conditions. Discussion at Wednesday’s meeting of the commission centered on using $15 million in public funds belonging to the commission as renovation seed money.
