A 38-year-old Santa Paula man was being held Monday in lieu of $20,000 bail at Ventura County Jail for allegedly kidnaping a woman and threatening to kill her boyfriend during the weekend, police said.

Police said Jimmie Harshbarger allegedly broke into the man’s home in the 100 block of North 13th Street at 8 a.m. Saturday and ordered the woman at gunpoint to get into his truck. Harshbarger then allegedly told the woman’s boyfriend, an acquaintance of Harshbarger whose name was not released, that he would kill him if he talked to the woman again, police said.

Police said Harshbarger was arrested without incident a short time later at his home in the 600 block of South B Street. The 38-year-old woman was found unharmed inside.

Harshbarger was arrested on suspicion of kidnaping, burglary, making threats, exhibiting a firearm and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

The woman also was taken into custody after police discovered that she had three misdemeanor warrants on traffic violations and appeared to be under the influence of cocaine, authorities said. She was later released.
