Whittier : Fire Destroys Classroom at Hoover Elementary
An overnight fire this week at Hoover Elementary School in Whittier caused about $125,000 in damage, destroying one classroom and causing minor damage in surrounding ones.
“It’s a soggy, wet, black mess,” Assistant Supt. Kirk G. Koehler said. “I’m sure glad it’s only one room.”
Koehler said the damage, which included several broken windows, would not delay today’s scheduled start of school. The dislocated students will attend class in the school library until the damaged room is repaired.
The blaze broke out around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Koehler said a police officer reported seeing someone running from the school around the time of the fire, but no one has been arrested.
