Saddleback Holds Off Late Comeback by Ocean View

Despite recovering an onsides kick at midfield with 4 minutes 2 seconds left, Ocean View was unable to rally past Saddleback, which snapped a three-year losing streak against the Seahawks with a 16-13 victory at Huntington Beach High.

After trailing, 16-6, midway through the fourth quarter, Ocean View pulled to within a field goal on a drive highlighted by a 25-yard run by Mike Coerper. After recovering Mark Wersching’s ensuing kick, the Seahawks appeared to be in position to win when Chad Pickens caught an apparent 40-yard completion at the 10. But the play was called back because of an illegal procedure penalty, and Saddleback held on.

Coerper led Ocean View with 112 yards on 24 carries, including the first 12 plays of the game. The Roadrunners were spurred by quarterback Danny Ruvolo, who completed 14 of 20 passes for 153 yards.
