PREP FOOTBALL : Young’s Runs Carry Bellflower to Victory

BELLFLOWER — Quarterback Jay Young rushed for 122 yards in seven carries to lead Bellflower past Brethren Christian, 21-6, in a nonleague game at Bellflower High Friday.
On Bellflower’s third possession of the first quarter, Young scored on a 63-yard touchdown run for the first score of the game.
Bellflower (1-0) scored in the second quarter on a 14-yard pass play from Young to Mark Hayes to give the Buccaneers a 13-0 lead.
In the second half, Brethren Christian cut into the Buccaneers’ lead on a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Reggie Davis to Jesse Mullen with 9 minutes 55 seconds remaining in the game.
Bellflower put the game out of reach with 4:03 remaining, scoring on a three-yard touchdown run by Enrico Bozman to give the Buccaneers a 21-6 lead.
Bellflower sacked Davis eight times and limited Brethren Christian to 62 yards passing.
