The Craft and Folk Art Museum’s annual free International Festival of Masks, celebration of masks and performance from various cultures, is set for Oct. 24-25. It includes two stages for continuous dance, theater and storytelling performances, an international food court, exhibitions and vendors, and on Oct. 25, the 11 a.m. “Parade of Masks,” which begins at Wilshire and Cloverdale and ends at the festival grounds (Hancock Park, corner of Wilshire Blvd., and Curson Ave., (213) 937-5544). An Oct. 31 Day of the Dead Ball features a large collaborative altar installation and 20 individual coffin installations by artists including Michael Amescua, Daniel J. Martinez, Patssi Valdez and Margaret Garcia; performance artist Peter Stack’s “Dead Marilyn . . . Thirty Years of Tears,” and DJ dancing (Park Plaza Hotel, 607 S. Also on Oct. 31, the ninth annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration includes face painting, music, dancing, and a sale of works by contemporary Chicano artists (Los Angeles Photography Center, 412 S. Park View St., (213) 383-7342). Free. 3-9 p.m.

The pricey Outsiders Masked Ball gala on Oct. 31 includes dinner and dancing, plus an auction of 60 one-of-a-kind masks created by contemporary artists including Leon Golub, D.J. Hall, Michael McMillen, Manuel Ocampo an Masami Teraoka (L.A. County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Blvd., (213) 857-6000). Tickets are $200 and will go toward the museum acquisitions.

The Day of the Dead Exhibit & Celebration, on Nov. 1, features works by more than 60 artists, plus entertainment by the comedy groups Culture Clash and Chicano Secret Service, and musical groups.
