CHESS RESULTS : Fischer Scores Second Win in Spassky Rematch

Bobby Fischer scored the second win of his comeback chess match against Boris Spassky on Saturday in Sveti Stefan, Yugoslavia. The “Revenge Match of the Century” is now tied at 2-2, with three draws.

Fischer had played poorly in the previous three games, losing two and barely drawing the third. In Saturday’s seventh game, Fischer opened with the Ruy Lopez as usual but chose a less ambitious variation at move 9.

When Spassky reacted aggressively to the opening, Fischer found powerful responses at moves 18 and 20 that refuted Spassky’s strategy. Later, Fischer singled out Black’s 16th move as the losing mistake.

The eighth game is scheduled today. The match will continue until one player wins 10 games.
