Matt Kellogg rushed for 138 yards and scored three touchdowns, leading Calvary Chapel to a 25-7 victory over Kaahumanu Hou High School of Hawaii Saturday night at Westminster High.

Kellogg, a 5-9, 154-pound senior, scored twice in his first three carries, on runs of 14 and 18 yards, to give the Eagles a 13-0 advantage.

The game’s two biggest plays came late in the first half. With 2:12 remaining, Eagles’ split end Robert Hudson caught a Ryan Krause screen pass and went 65 yards for the touchdown. Not to be outdone, Lion quarterback Josh Carvalho teamed up with wideout Bruno Pagan for a 65-yard score on the first play after the ensuing kickoff. Paul Fernandez’s extra point cut the lead to 19-7 at halftime.

Kaahumanu Hou (0-2), a school on the island of Maui that is in its first varsity season, was stymied on offense all night. The Eagle defense limited the Lions to 137 total yards. The Lions tried three different tailbacks, with Tim Acpal having the most success, gaining 30 yards in 10 carries.

The Eagles’ final score came on an eight-play, 80-yard drive early in the second half, capped by a three-yard sweep by Kellogg.

Krause had a solid night at quarterback, completing seven of 14 passes for 129 yards.
