MOORPARK : Teen Badly Hurt When ATV Crashes

A Moorpark teen-ager was in fair condition Monday recovering from multiple fractures he suffered when he crashed his all-terrain vehicle into a concrete drainage ditch near Fillmore, officials said.
Gilbert Gallardo, 13, was driving the ATV north about 35 m.p.h. on a dirt-and-gravel levee that runs along Sespe Creek when he lost control of the vehicle near Sespe Avenue and Robin Court about 5:40 p.m. Sunday, said Staci Morse, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle dropped 20 feet into the drainage ditch and crashed, Morse said. The boy broke his nose, both wrists and his pelvis in the crash, she said. He also sustained a skull fracture and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center.
Gallardo’s injuries would have been more severe if he hadn’t been wearing a helmet, Morse said.
