Police on Monday identified a 26-year-old man who they found shot to death in a garage this weekend.

The man, identified as Jesus Hernandez Campos of Paso Robles, was found seated in a chair inside a garage in the 500 block of North Olive Street, police said. He had been shot in the upper body, investigators said.

Police found a handgun they believe was used in the shooting.

Investigators identified Campos, who did not have any identification when he was found, through interviews at the scene, Police Lt. Trey Sirks said.

Police do not believe that the case is gang-related, and they know little about the man or what he did in Orange, Sirks said. Sirks said investigators are also trying to determine a motive for the killing.

In Paso Robles, a friend and co-worker said she did not know why Campos was in Southern California. Campos picked apples on a ranch outside the small town in San Luis Obispo County, said Rosa Campos, no relation to the victim, who said she had known the man for three years.

“He’s a nice guy and a real caring person,” she said.
